Outline

Goal

1.High-risk Basic Research for Green Mobility Innovation

High-risk research is essential to Green Innovation. Nagoya University, working together with industry, will take the lead in the mission to establish international competitiveness.

2.Strengthened Collaboration in Research between Industry and Academia for Green Innovation

In terms of benefits returned to society, it is vital that scientific discoveries and technical inventions created with basic research do not end up as theoretical papers, but are linked to the creation of social and economic value. The Research Center is therefore engaged in the challenge of promoting research & development to create innovative technologies in the field of Green Mobility. At the same time it is able to develop scientists and engineers in this field through cooperation between industry and academia. (The practice of scientific and technical innovation)

3.Formation of Research Core in Advanced Fusion Areas for Green Mobility Innovation

Innovation is frequently brought about from new fusion research areas. Particularly in the automobile field, consistent research and development in fusion areas from the basic research stage to implementation is important. We gather together researchers throughout the different areas of Nagoya University working in the field of Green Mobility to develop a synergy between research personnel, and build a hub for Green Mobility fusion research to lead the world.

4.Globalization and Research Core Development to Take Advantage of Regional Characteristics and Uniqueness

Automobile manufacturing is the primary industry of the Tokai region. Nagoya University is able to facilitate a positive spiral of development as the core university of this region. This is because it works in cooperation with industry to resolve technical problems, create new technologies and develop human resource. Nagoya University collaborates also with local and overseas universities.

5.Human resource Development for Green Mobility

The manufacturing knowledge in Japanese industry has a tendency to be maldistributed on-site.We refine such knowledge into persuasive theories to be good in the world, and educate human resources in the society concerning the technologies of Green Mobility combined with the knowledge of Japanese manufacturing management. Through this activity, the human resources are developed with the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge and skills. They engage themselves in the challenge to Green Innovation with a global mindset, and convey the technologies of Green Mobility and the philosophy of Japanese manufacturing management to the next generation. There are already a number of areas in which future progress in manufacturing technology cannot be expected, only with education within the subdivided technical areas in the industry. This Center therefore takes advantage of the strengths of academia to implement education not readily implemented by industry, and thus develop research and technical personnel in these areas.

6.Japan’s Leading Role in International Standardization

International standardization in Green Mobility technologies such as fuel cells, electric vehicles, active safety, the environment, energy, and ITS is directly linked to competitiveness. We promote collaborative research between industry and academia throughout all levels including basic research, and work with international organizations for the purpose of rapid development of an international standardization strategy.
